Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health, the majority stakeholder of GI Alliance, plans to acquire Solaris Health, a urology management services organization, for $1.9 billion in cash.
According to an Aug. 12 news release, the acquisition will go through Cardinal Health’s multi-specialty MSO organization, The Specialty Alliance. When the deal closes in late 2025, Cardinal Health will own about 75% of The Specialty Alliance.
Solaris Health is backed by physician owners and Lee Equity Partners. Following the acquisition, physicians and several management members will join GI Alliance physician owners and management as equity holders and operators in The Specialty Alliance.
Cardinal Health, known primarily for distributing pharmaceuticals and medical products, is part of a growing group of physician practice and MSO buyers — including insurers, pharmaceutical companies and medical equipment distributors — that are increasingly acquiring physician groups to build vertically integrated care platforms.
