By 2036, the U.S. is projected to face a shortage of 6,300 anesthesiologists, but some states already have a much larger gap than others, according to a white paper from Medicus Healthcare Solutions.

Here are the states with the highest and lowest number of anesthesiologists per 100,000 people:

Delaware: 38

Massachusetts: 24

New York: 23

Maryland: 21

Lowest:

Idaho: 5

South Dakota: 9

Mississippi: 10

North Carolina: 11
