“From 1995 until 2002 the market was fantastic,” said John Pereira, CEO of United Medical Technologies. “It was the best growth period, but the last two or three years have been flat, because everyone already has a bone densitometer.” Demand for used bone densitometers has been particularly affected, said Tony Orlando, president of Complete Medical Services.
Mr. Orlando said recent reimbursement relief from CMS could mean a better future for the densitometers, if accompanied by further penetration of the private sector. He did not elaborate on the CMS changes.
