Mohd Malik, MD, a St. Louis-based psychiatrist who is part owner of Behavioral Health Services, which operated Psych Care Consultants in St. Louis, will pay $501,556 to settle allegations that he submitted false claims to Medicare and Missouri Medicaid from Jan. 1, 2019, to May 31, 2024.
He claimed to provide in-person psychotherapy, including when he was out of state or the country, and billed for services performed by others, according to a July 22 news release from the Justice Department. The civil settlement comprises $250,778 in restitution, doubled under the False Claims Act.
In April, Dr. Malik pleaded guilty to making false statements in federal healthcare matters. He admitted to billing Medicare, Medicaid and private insurers for services he did not perform. Sentencing is set for Aug. 11.
