A Las Vegas nurse practitioner has pleaded guilty to participating in a healthcare fraud scheme involving medically unnecessary amniotic wound allografts in exchange for kickbacks, according to a July 16 news release from the Justice Department.
What happened?
- Between September 2022 and April 2024, Mary Huntly applied unnecessary amniotic wound allografts to Medicare beneficiaries. These allografts were obtained through illegal kickbacks and bribes.
- Through her wound care company, Huntly fraudulently billed Medicare approximately $14.3 million for these procedures. Medicare ultimately paid about $9.1 million based on the false claims.
- She has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and to pay and receive healthcare kickbacks.
