GE Healthcare has recalled a select model of its Muse Cardiology Information Systems due to a security risk, according to a June 12 report from Cardiovascular Business.
The impacted model, Muse 5, is so old that GE stopped offering regular technical support for it over 10 years ago.
In April, GE determined that the Muse system could be accessed by outside parties who may be able to tamper with patient data.
The FDA issued the Class II recall, which impacts 4,200 Muse 5 systems, on June 10.
“We recently issued a voluntary recall on legacy Muse 5 systems that reached their end of service support in 2014 and are recommending that hospitals replace or upgrade these systems. There have been no injuries or unauthorized access to patient data reported to GE HealthCare as a result of this issue,” a GE spokesperson told Cardiovascular Business.
