A lawyer for the accounting firm, Bartlett, Pringle & Wolf in Santa Barbara, Calif., is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed against the firm, saying hospital officials had ample evidence to raise their suspicions over former CEO Michael Bakst’s alleged financial improprieties.
Without admitting wrongdoing, the hospital paid the federal government about $1.5 million to settle allegations and Mr. Bakst agreed to pay the government $64,000 involving the same allegations.
