62% of physicians say profession is underpaid

Sixty-two percent of physicians think that the profession is underpaid, according to Medscape’s 2025 “Physician Compensation Report,” published April 11. 

Medscape surveyed 7,322 physicians who responded between Oct. 3, 2024 and Jan. 15, 2025.

Here are three more notes: 

1. Thirty-three percent of surveyed physicians said they were paid about right, and 5% said they were overpaid. 

2. Fifty-three percent of physicians said that they personally felt they were unfairly paid relative to their job demands. 

3. Among primary care physicians, 56% feel personally underpaid, while among specialties, 52% feel underpaid.
