Physician assistants have the highest annual mean wage in the employment services industry, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The average annual wage for physician assistants across all industries and practice settings is $136,900.

The agency released updated compensation data in April to reflect 2024 information, the most recent available. 

Here are the 10 highest-paying industries for physician assistants, along with the average annual salary:

  1. Employment services: $158,340
  2. Federal executive branch: $157,380
  3. Other ambulatory healthcare services: $154,800
  4. Outpatient care centers: $150,150
  5. Psychiatric and substance abuse hospitals: $143,320
  6. Scientific research and development services: $141,890
  7. Specialty (except psychiatric and substance abuse) hospitals: $139,160
  8. General medical and surgical hospitals: $139,090
  9. Management, scientific and technical consulting services: $137,460
  10. Offices of other healthcare practitioners: $136,930
