Physicians practicing in Mississippi earn the highest annual salary, based on cost of living, according to a new report from personal finance website WalletHub, published March 18. 

On average, family medicine physicians have a median salary of $225,000 annually, according to the report. 

WalletHub collected salary data from a number of sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Council for Community and Economic Research, the Health Resources & Services Administration, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and more. 3. Georgia 

4. Kentucky 

5. Indiana

The five lowest-paid states for physicians, based on cost of living:

1. Washington, D.C.

2. Massachusetts

3. Hawaii

4. Rhode Island

5. New Jersey
