As President Donald Trump continues to levy tariffs against Mexico, Canada and the European Union, countries are retaliating, placing in-kind tariff restrictions back on the U.S.
A few key states are expected to be hit the hardest by tariffs levied by Mexico, Canada and China, while additional states stand to be hardest hit by EU tariffs, according to a March 13 report from CNBC.
The value of U.S. exports that could be subject to tariffs under the Trump administration’s new policies could total over $27 billion.
The EU is imposing retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. on April 1, with additional tariffs to potentially to come in mid-April.
An analysis of EU tariffs has determined five states that are likely to be hit hardest. Here are the five states that will be hardest hit by EU tariffs, and the percent of state goods imported from EU countries:
1. New York: 39%
2. North Dakota: 36%
3. Nebraska: 32%
4. Iowa: 26%
5. West Virginia: 26%
