10 worst places to live

Louisiana was named the worst state to live in, according to Wallethub’s 2024 Best States To Live In, published Aug. 12.

The ranking analyzed 51 key indicators of livability, including public hospital quality and premature death rate. All 50 states were compared across five dimensions of livability. Read more about the methodology used here.

  1. Louisiana 
  2. New Mexico
  3. Arkansas
  4. Alaska
  5. Nevada
  6. Mississippi
  7. Oklahoma
  8. South Carolina
  9. Oregon
  10. Arizona
