Adarsh Gupta, MD, signed thousands of prescriptions for orthotic braces for more than 2,900 Medicare beneficiaries through a telemarketing scheme, according to an April 26 news release from the Justice Department. He signed prescriptions for braces that falsely represented that the braces were medically necessary. Dr. Gupta’s false prescriptions were used by brace supply companies to bill Medicare more than $5.4 million.
Dr. Gupta was convicted of three counts of healthcare fraud and two counts of false statements relating to healthcare matters.
