The facility will allow access for GI patients in Athens and Watkinsville, Ga., according to an April 10 press release. It will combine advanced technology with clinical expertise for the early detection of GI cancer.
The main objective will be to discover and diagnose these types of cancer in the earliest stages. The clinic will provide a comprehensive range of gastrointestinal procedures and experienced endoscopists available. Clinicians will use an approach that includes a detailed history and physical, imaging, formal genetic counseling, and risk reduction strategies.
A physician referral will not be required for patients to seek care at the clinics, which will be located within the UCBC Surgical Oncology office in Athens and in the UHA office in Watkinsville.
Minesh Mehta, MD, gastroenterologist at UHA, will spearhead the program.
