Why health execs like to hire temporary physicians 

Sixty-five percent of providers used temporary physicians to allow for the continual treatment of patients, according to AMN Healthcare’s “2022 Survey of Locum Tenens.”

AMN Healthcare surveyed 202 healthcare facility executives/managers in February and March.. They were asked to check all responses that applied from a list of six to the question, “What are the benefits of using locum tenens physicians?” 

The six responses and percent of respondents checking each of them are listed below:

  • Allows continual treatment of patients: 66 percent
  • Immediate availability of providers: 56 percent
  • Prevents revenue loss: N/A 
  • Prevents existing staff burnout: 35 percent
  • Other: 5 percent 
  • Reduces medical errors/readmission: 3 percent
