What makes it great: Melbourne Surgery Center, which features four operating rooms and a procedure room, serves the Central Florida Brevard County communities. The center is accredited by the AAAHC and licensed by the state and Medicare. The center offers a broad range of procedures among its seven specialties.

Melbourne Surgery Center takes pride in its welcoming environment, which is catered toward making patients feel comfortable while providing the best clinical outcomes possible. The center also emphasizes a family-oriented environment with its physicians and staff members, which Wanda Coulter, RN, director of nursing, says is a refreshing approach to operating a surgery center.

“The focus is on the people,” Ms. Coulter says. “SCA/Melbourne Surgery Center engages everyone from the bottom floor of operations to the top floor of operations in a family atmosphere. Everyone is a team member rather than an employee with a number.”

Part of the family-oriented environment at Melbourne Surgery Center includes a formal process that allows physicians and staff members to freely come forward to share and implement ideas for improvement. “I consider [my role] as working with my extended true family,” says Erin Carney, surgery schedule/physician office liaison at the ambulatory surgery center. “Even when the going gets tough, we all come together for daily ‘huddles’ and communicate all that is necessary to meet and exceed expectations.”
