Ken Beverly was accused of defrauding the federal Medicaid program of more than $9 million that was not rightfully due by falsifying documents to the Georgia Department of Community Health. Mr. Beverly allegedly falsified information to receive funding as a public facility. However, a defense attorney has already come out saying the Georgia Department of Community Health’s commissioner will testify that Archbold was entitled to the funding, according to the report.
The prosecution claims Mr. Beverly “knowingly participated in the plan” and bribed former CFO Bill Sellers to stay mum about the alleged fraud, promising retirement benefits worth $2 million to do so. Mr. Sellers himself entered into a guilty plea and is cooperating with the government, according to the report.
One of Mr. Beverly’s defense attorneys stated Mr. Beverly was “thrown under the bus” by Mr. Sellers, saying Mr. Beverly had no motive to participate in the alleged fraud scheme, according to the report.
