The deal, which still needs approval from the state Office of Health Care Access, would give Hartford Hospital 100 percent ownership of the ASC, which currently has 30 physician-owners. The surgery center is managed by Constitution Surgery Centers, which has 14 facilities in the Northeast and eight in Connecticut.

The ASC, the largest ophthalmic surgical services provider in the region, will begin to offer retina surgeries after the acquisition and will have at least one of its four surgical suites retrofitted.

Hartford Healthcare’s vice president and treasurer said he hoped the acquisition will be finalized by December or Jan. 2011.
