Symbion Revenue Up, Net Income Turns Positive

Symbion has reported strong third quarter earnings, with an increase in revenue and net income over the prior year third quarter, according to the company’s SEC filing.

Symbion reported revenue of about $105 million, up from $85 million the prior year third quarter. The company also had a positive net income of $283,000 for the quarter compared to a loss of a little more than $7 million during the third quarter of 2009.

 

The company has seen some noticeable changes in its payor distribution since Dec. 31, 2009, when it reported 59 percent of reimbursement came from private insurance, 15 percent from the government, 13 self-pay and 13 other; as of Sept. 30, private insurance was down to 53 percent, government up to 20 percent and self-pay down to 10 percent.

 

Symbion ends the quarter owning and operating 57 surgical facilities, including 52 ASCs and five surgical hospitals, and managing eight additional ASCs and one physician network. The company owns a majority ownership interest in 34 of the 57 surgical facilities.
