Mr. Friedrich says in his letter that this framework is better suited to address the majority of patient care needs which are episodic and limited in scope rather than the accountable-care organizations he feels would concentrate market power for hospitals and are more appropriate for treatment complicated medical conditions.
He goes on to call for the support of organizations like ASCs and specialty hospitals which meet these most common patient needs while doing so at lower costs and improving quality.
