When it comes to analyzing resources, ASCs should look at their equipment and supplies to determine what they will need after shifting focus to total joint cases.
This requires speaking with stakeholders to understand the details of the surgeries, including what positions patients will be in during the surgeries and whether staff have the right tools or tables. Additionally, ASC leaders need to do a walkthrough of their facility to examine the size of their rooms, where equipment will be positioned in the operating room during surgery, and where equipment will be stored when it isn’t in use. They should also evaluate existing storage and consider how to store the additional supplies that a total joint program requires.
If your facility is already doing orthopedic procedures, you likely have much of the instrumentation and supplies required for total joints. However, you should still review your inventory and consider how your resources in the sterile processing department will be utilized as well.
