Surgery center owner launches co-op for independent physicians — 4 insights

Nick Vailas, co-founder of Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center, launched Patriot Health Partners, a cooperative focused on lower costs for independent physicians and healthcare providers, the New Hampshire UnionLeader reports.

1. The cooperative will allow practices to band together to have greater purchasing power.

2. The cooperative will negotiate on behalf of its members to secure lower rates for supplies, drugs, management fees and insurance.

3. To date, 15 practices have joined the cooperative, which aims to establish large membership bases in New Hampshire, southern Maine and northern Massachusetts.

4. Bedford (N.H.) Ambulatory Surgical Center opened in 1993.
