Three additional takeaways from the report:
1. The median number of active physicians per 100,000 population increased from 239.6 physicians in 2008 to 263.3 physicians in 2018.
2. These states had fewer active physicians than the median number: Mississippi, Idaho, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Alabama, Iowa, Texas and Kansas.
3. From 2008 to 2018, the median number of active general surgeons per 100,000 population decreased by 0.3 from 8.0 per 100,000 to 7.7 per 100,000.
