Medscape surveyed 2,272 residents to compile their report.
Three things to know:
1. Residents surveyed said they considered careers in accounting, law, engineering, business, and as airline pilots, park rangers and Hallmark greeting card writers.
2. While some residents said they have considered careers outside of medicine, 86 percent of residents surveyed said they look forward to working as a physician.
3. The top factors residents are looking for in their first position include work schedule/call hours (75 percent), starting salary/compensation (64 percent) and a supportive organizational/practice environment (53 percent).
