Georgia hospital partners with surgery center — 4 insights

Piedmont Athens (Ga.) Regional Medical Center partnered with Surgery Center of Athens to expand its surgical services, local news affiliate WGAU reports.

What you should know:

1. Piedmont physicians will be able to refer patients to the surgery center.

2. All 15 Surgery Center of Athens physician investors agreed to the partnership.

3. Piedmont Athens Regional CEO Michael Burnett said the partnership will further both organizations’ goals of providing “high-quality, patient-centered healthcare to our patients.”

4. Surgery Center of Athens opened in 2012.

“We look forward to bringing that coordination and the ability to offer our high quality services to more patients in the Athens area who need them,” said Kemberly Mixon, BSN, RN, Surgery Center of Athens administrator.
