Minnesota surgery center turns 1 — 5 insights

Willmar, Minn.-based Carris Health Surgery Center celebrated the one-year anniversary of its surgery center’s first procedure on May 24, Lakeland Broadcasting reports.

1. Podiatrist Mark Johnston, DPM, completed the first procedure at the surgery center on May 24, 2018.

2. Physicians have since performed 2,634 surgical procedures, 2,193 endoscopy procedures and 905 pain management procedures.

3. The center also added new MRI technology in its first year of operation.

4. Carris Health Surgery Center director Erika Gjerde, RN, said the center was busiest in December, with 328 procedures; it was the busiest month in the center’s 33-year history. Carris Health had a previous surgery center.

5. The center employs 48 staff members, with clinicians from 14 specialty areas.
