Three key details:
1. The layoffs will affect nurses, technicians, pharmacy workers and administrators at the hospital, which specializes in treating orthopedic and spine conditions in children.
2. In an April 29 letter to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the hospital system said the layoffs are “the result of industry-wide changes in the delivery of healthcare.”
3. In January, Shriners Hospitals revealed plans to discontinue inpatient care at several hospitals — including the one in Tampa — due to a declining need for inpatient care and rising need for outpatient care, a spokesperson told Tampa Bay Business Journal at the time. Sixty-four workers were laid off at the system’s Minneapolis campus after the announcement.
