Hospitals hiring more physicians, buying more physician practices

A report from the Physicians Advocacy Institute found that the percentage of physicians joining hospitals and health systems steadily increased between July 2012 and January 2018.

Three report details:

1. The percentage of hospital-employed physicians increased by 70 percent from July 2012 to January 2018.

2. The number of hospital-owned practices also increased, ranging from an increase of 91 percent to 303 percent in regions across the U.S.

3. The percentage of hospital-owned practices doubled between 2012 and 2018.
