Healthcare data breaches spiked in March

There were 31 healthcare data breaches in March, about 14 percent higher than the average in the last five years, according to HIPAA Journal.

The five largest March breaches:

1. Navicent Health: 278,016 individuals affected
2. ZOLL Services: 277,319
3. Burrell Behavioral Health: 67,493
4. LCP Transportation: 54,528
5. Superior Dental Care Alliance: 38,260

The top causes of healthcare data breaches were hacking and IT incidents, unauthorized access and theft.
