The honorees will receive their awards at Digestive Disease Week 2019, May 18-21 in San Diego.
AGA Institute President David Lieberman, MD, said, “We are proud to announce the 2019 AGA Recognition Prize winners, who are just a few of the distinguished and talented members who help make AGA such an accomplished organization. We are honored that such esteemed individuals are representative of AGA.”
The award winners:
1. Julius Friedenwald Medal, AGA’s highest honor: John I. Allen, MD, MBA
Dr. Allen is a past AGA Institute president and a renowned expert in healthcare delivery and healthcare economics. He developed and led the AGA through its five-year strategic plan and helped grow AGA into the organization it is today. He is currently a clinical professor and chief clinical officer at Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medical Group at University of Michigan School of Medicine
2. Distinguished Achievement Award in Basic Science: Harry Greenberg, MD
3. William Beaumont Prize: Timothy Wang, MD
4. Distinguished Educator Award: Deborah Proctor, MD
5. Distinguished Clinician Award in Private Practice: Naresh Gunaratnam, MD
6. Distinguished Clinical Award in Clinical Academic Practice: Edward Loftus Jr., MD
7. Distinguished Mentor Award: Fred Gorelick, MD
8. Research Service Award: Ann Zauber, PhD
9. Young Investigator Award in Clinical Science: Sonia Kupfer, MD
10. Young investigator Award in Basic Science: Costas Lyssiotis, PhD
