Born in Austin, Minn., Mr. May earned a master’s degree in education from the Minneapolis-based University of Minnesota. From 1958 to 1969, he taught business at a high school, where he served as the business education department chairman.
He went on to work in sales and marketing until 1982, when he moved to Eden Prairie, Minn., with his wife Janet. There, he became the executive director for Dallas-based American Medical International with St. Paul (Minn.) Surgical Center and Minneapolis Single Day Surgery Center.
In 1984, Mr. May served as American MedCenters Health Plan’s corporate director of administration.
Mr. May worked in the securities industry toward the end of his career, with positions at Drexel Burnham, Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley. He retired in 2002.
Mr. May was an avid golfer, served on the YMCA and Red Wing Country Club boards and attended the Church of St. Joseph. He was known for his devotion to family, positive attitude and belief in abundant opportunities.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, as well as three daughters, seven grandchildren, three siblings and many nieces and nephews.
