2. While health insurance premiums have soared, more than $100 billion in ACA funds have been spent subsidizing the individual market, Dr. Singleton said in the publication.
3. To lower healthcare prices, Dr. Singleton wrote Congress should increase competition and remove barriers, such as lack of transparency, certificate-of-need laws, ACA restrictions on physician-owned hospitals and lax interpretation of anti-trust laws. The Trump administration released a report earlier this week recommending Congress and state legislators to eliminate or reduce certificate-of-need legislation, lift the physician-owned hospital ban and re-examine non-compete clauses in physician contracts.
4. Dr. Singleton also advises Congress to encourage direct patient care practices, health-sharing ministries and expanded tax-exempt medical expense accounts without complex and restrictive HSA rules.
