U of Alabama Birmingham names Dr. Douglas Morgan GI director — 4 insights

Douglas Morgan, MD, will lead the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s gastroenterology and hepatology division, effective Oct. 1.

Here’s what you should know:

1. Dr. Morgan comes to UAB from Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University, which he joined in 2011.

2. He specializes in gastric cancer epidemiology and prevention.

3. Dr. Morgan said, “It is an honor to join one of the top institutions in the nation. We look forward to further growing our mission in the service of diverse populations in Alabama and globally through patient care, teaching and scientific discovery.”

4. He succeeds Mel Wilcox, MD, who assumed the position in 2001.
