ASC supply chain tip of the day: Manage inventory based on usage

Hoarding supplies “just in case” can be inefficient for ASCs, said Stephanie Martin, RN, Regent Surgical Health’s vice president of operations and clinical services.

Ms. Martin published the following tip on Regent Surgical Health’s blog:

“Staff often hold sutures in their pockets as it is easy to carry around,” Ms. Martin said. “They often don’t know what it costs and are unaware they are carrying around $50 or $100 dollars’ worth of items in their pockets.”

Ordering supplies based on usage is more efficient rather than to fill capacity, she added.
