Here are four details:
1. Arthur Miriana recruited drug dealers and drug addicts to visit his pain management clinic. They paid $260 to $360 in cash to obtain prescriptions for controlled substances including oxycodone and Xanax.
2. Mr. Miriana hired Barbara Schneider, MD, to sign the prescriptions. Dr. Schneider didn’t perform the medical examinations legally required to prescribe controlled substances, according to prosecutors.
3. Dr. Schneider only met with patients for as long as it took to write a prescription and gave Mr. Miriana pre-signed blank prescriptions to use, prosecutors said.
4. Dr. Schneider pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and alprazolam. Her sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 21.
