Here are five things to know.
1. The House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the Post-Surgical Injections as an Opioid Alternative Act May 17. It was one of 57 measures sent to the House to address the opioid crisis.
2. H.R. 5804 would partially reverse CMS’ decision to cut the reimbursement rate for post-surgical injections in the ASC setting as an incentive for providers to use them as an alternative to opioids in pain treatment.
3. The legislation is also intended to collect data on a subset of codes related to post-surgical injection treatments.
4. The committee passed H.R. 5804 with a vote of 36-14.
5. Reps. John Shimkus (R-IL), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Peter Roskam (R-IL) authored the bill.
