Gearing up for CVS merger, Aetna adds 250k Medicare Advantage enrollees

Aetna served 250,000 additional Medicare Advantage customers in the first quarter of 2018.

Here are four quick notes.

1. At the end of the first quarter, about 1.7 million members were enrolled in Aetna’s Medicare Advantage plans.

2. Aetna had approximately 22 million total health plan members at the end of the quarter.

3. Commercial and Medicaid businesses growth was down compared to Medicare Advantage.

4. After the CVS deal — which is projected to close in the second half of 2018 — the two companies plan to target the U.S. Medicare population, according to Forbes. CVS sells Medicare Part D drug plans.
