Here are six insights.
1. Daniel Lawrynowicz is charged with one count of violating the Federal Travel Act, which includes bribery in its definition of an “unlawful activity.” He pleaded guilty April 3 in Newark, N.J., federal court.
2. According to court statements and documents, Mr. Lawrynowicz was employed by the medical device company, which wasn’t identified in the announcement, in New Jersey in 2012.
3. Eugene Ostrovsky and two other principals of the technology company, which also wasn’t identified, sought a contract worth $5.5 million with the medical device company.
4. Mr. Lawrynowicz’s position within the medical device company enabled him to provide recommendations related to what the technology company wanted to supply through the contract.
In exchange for his help securing the contract, Mr. Lawrynowicz received illegal payments from the three technology company principals, according to the report. After the contract was signed, he was paid $75,000, which he must now forfeit.
5. Mr. Lawrynowicz faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. His sentencing is scheduled for July 23.
6. In March 2018, Mr. Ostrovsky was sentenced to six months in prison, six months of home confinement and two years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty last year for his involvement in the bribery scheme.
