1. The health system already had the light system installed in its inpatient and outpatient surgical suites as well as its emergency department patient bays.
2. The light system combats surgical site infections by continuously disinfecting the air as well as soft and hard surfaces through light technology.
3. Bacteria absorb the light, which causes a chemical reaction killing it instantly.
4. When the OR is not in use, the system can be switched to indigo-only mode which provides a higher level of disinfection.
