Maine Medical Center seeks board approval for $512M expansion, including ASC — 4 highlights

Portland-based Maine Medical Center will seek board approval March 27 to launch an expansion project this spring, the Portland Press Herald reports.

Here are four things to know.

1. The five-year expansion plan includes a new surgery center and employee parking garage.

2. Pending approval, the hospital will begin construction in early May.

3. Phase one of the expansion includes the addition of three floors to the visitor parking garage — for a total of 220 more parking spots — and two stories on top of the hospital’s East Tower.

4. The addition of 19 operating rooms and 128 single-occupancy patient rooms will increase the size of the hospital’s main campus by about 25 percent. However, its patient capacity won’t increase because it’s converting double-occupancy rooms into single-occupancy rooms.
