Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Liguori will receive the award in April during the 2018 World Congress on Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine for his career accomplishments. Under his leadership, HSS performs around 85 percent of all procedures with regional anesthesia and around 98 percent of joint replacements with neuraxial techniques.
2. After becoming the chief anesthesiologist at HSS in 1993, Dr. Liguori played a key role in expanding the hospital’s education programs and the regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine fellowship, which has graduated more than 130 regional anesthesiologists.
3. Under his leadership, the HSS department of anesthesiology has grown from 25 to 70 anesthesiologists and pain management specialists.
4. In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Liguori is a clinical professor in anesthesiology at Weill Cornell in New York City. He also published five book chapters and 27 peer-reviewed articles, and he serves as the associate editor for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management.
5. Dr. Liguori has been a member of ASRA for 27 years.
