Here’s what you should know:
1. Dr. De La Pena is a past chairman of the PAOF and is currently on its executive board.
2. Dr. De La Pena received the honor because he “has not only lived up to the mission of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology/PAOF but has strengthened it,” according to a press release. “In the last five years, the PAOF has strengthened its financial standing and expanded its scholarship programs [because of his work].”
3. Dr. De La Pena said, “It has been a great honor to serve in this position. The funds we raise for the PAAO have undoubtedly improved eye care in the region.”
