10 large US markets with the lowest ASC penetration

Twenty-three of the top 50 largest U.S. markets have ASC penetration between 40 percent to 60 percent market share. However, there are notable exceptions, with some of the largest markets in the country falling under 40 percent ASC penetration; these markets are considered opportunity markets, according to a Franklin Trust Ratings report titled “Disruption in the Surgical Care Marketplace.”

The 10 large U.S. markets that fall below 40 percent market share include:

1. Cleveland: 8 percent
2. Chicago: 11 percent
3. Boston: 13 percent
4. Milwaukee: 26 percent
5. Virginia Beach, Va.: 27 percent
6. Sacramento, Calif.: 28 percent
7. Detroit: 28 percent
8. Louisville, Ky.: 29 percent
9. Long Beach, Calif.: 32 percent
10. Oklahoma City: 33 percent
