Here are five statistics on physician income and pay based on the findings:

1. Physicians are split on whether they’re receiving fair compensation; 35.77 percent were satisfied, 32.46 percent were unsatisfied and 31.77 percent were neutral on their 2016 income.

2. Half of the physician respondents anticipate their income will remain around the same in 2017 as it was in 2016. However, 27.71 percent feel their compensation will increase this year and 19.59 percent think it will decrease.

3. Reimbursement decrease is the factor most likely to limit a physician’s income, according to 32.18 percent of survey respondents. Other factors include:

• Personal choice to work less and make less: 14.38 percent
• Overhead increases: 9.39 percent
• Patient volume/patient load: 8.8 percent
• Payer mix: 7.51 percent

4. Nearly half — 43.8 percent — of respondents said none of their income is based on quality or value-based care as opposed to production-based bonuses or salaries.

5. Around 14 percent of respondents said 1 to 5 percent of their income is quality- or value-based; another 9 percent reported 6 to 10 percent of their income is quality- or value-based.
