Here are five things to know:
1. A joint venture between Rice Memorial Hospital and Affiliated Community Medical Centers, Willmar Medical Services officially began work on a new $11 million outpatient ASC.
2. The ASC will “meet growing community needs” for outpatient surgical services, which are typically delivered at a lower cost than inpatient procedures.
3. Located on the ACMC campus, the new ASC is Willmar Medical Services largest investment to date. The group also provides imaging and orthopedic care, and operates a cancer center, diabetes center and sleep center.
4. Willmar’s existing surgery center accommodates 7,000 procedures per year, including gastroenterology, urology and pain management. There are 54 staff and 37 surgeons using the center.
5. The new facility will be around 29,000 square feet, which is more than double the current surgery center, which will remain open until the new facility is ready.
