11% of physicians optimistic about value-based payment models

A Medical Group Management Association found 11 percent of physicians reported feeling positively about value-based payment models, according to healthcare informatics.

Here are three things to know:

1. Forty percent have negative sentiments regarding the models.

2. Forty-nine percent reported feeling split between negative and positive feelings.

3. David Gans, senior fellow of industry affairs for MGMA, said the results are not surprising. He said, “A lot of physicians, to be honest, have had less than good experience with relationships with health maintenance organizations or other insurers, so there’s not necessarily a lot of trust in how the system is going to be implemented. So you have uncertainty about the unknown, versus what you know very well.”
