As president of the ASC Association, Ms. Bryant leads the activities of the nation’s largest ASC membership association. During her time as president, she oversaw the development and implementation of the first ASC-specific credential (CASC), now recognized as an important distinction of those individuals with a comprehensive understanding of ASC administration.
In an interview with Becker’s ASC Review following the passage of the healthcare reform bill, Ms. Bryant discussed the impact of healthcare reform on ASCs. She said she was disappointed in the lack of ASC advocacy in the new law. “I think it was a big loss to Medicare beneficiaries that the new law does not encourage the use of ASCs,” she said. “President Obama and his staff went through the budget looking for any way to save money, and they were certainly provided information on how ASCs could help do that. The role of ASCs was not addressed.”
Commenting on Ms. Bryant’s approaching departure, the ASC Association said in a statement, “[Ms.] Bryant’s tenure with [the ASC Association and the Ambulatory Surgery Foundation] has been characterized by numerous achievements for individual ASCs and the organizations she led. These achievements include a dramatic growth in membership, an expanded scope of services for members, enhancement of ASCs’ stature on Capitol Hill and much more.”
Prior to joining the ASC industry, Ms. Bryant headed the government relations program of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for 13 years. She has also worked for the American Medical Association and the Iowa State Senate. She graduated from the University of Iowa School of Law with distinction.
