Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente researcher Alexander Lee, MD, and colleagues identified 126 gastroenterologists that performed 259,064 total procedures including 76,445 screening and surveillance colonoscopies cataloguing adenoma detection rate.
Here’s what they found.
1. Adenoma detection rates were similar between morning and afternoon examinations.
2. Researchers found the number of procedures the providers performed before a colonoscopy did not affect adenoma detection.
Researchers concluded, “In a large community-based setting, adenoma detection for screening and surveillance colonoscopies were not associated with either time of day or the number of prior procedures performed by the endoscopist, within the range of procedure volumes evaluated.”
