ASC Ophthalmologist Named President of Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons

Barry E. Roper, MD, MBA, FACS, an ophthalmologist at Stony Point Surgery Center in Richmond, Vir., has been named the president of the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, according to a press release.

Dr. Roper began practicing ophthalmology in Richmond in 1978. In addition to his work at Stony Point, he was a solo practitioner in Richmond Ophthalmic Associates for 18 years before merging the practice with Richmond Eye Associates, where he still practices.  

Dr. Roper previously served as chief of staff of the Richmond Eye and Ear Hospital from 1993 through 1996; chief of ophthalmology at Johnston-Willis and Chippenham Hospitals during the 1980s and served the American College of Surgeons on its Committee for Applicants for 10 years.
