Trump administration issues ACA regulation aimed at payers: 3 things to know

President Donald Trump made his first mark on the ACA by shortening the open enrollment period and aligning it to similar industry periods, NBC News reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. The move attempts to quell payers’ nerves about the ACA’s uncertain future. Louisville, Ky.-based Humana announced Feb. 14, 2017 it would withdraw completely from the ACA after lowering enrollments and higher-than-expected expenses.

2. CMS Administrator Patrick Conway, MD, said in a statement the proposal will stabilize the marketplace and provide states and payers flexibility.

3. President Trump’s administration said it was waiting until HHS Secretary Tom Price’s, MD, confirmation to make any moves regarding the insurance law.
